Week 14 Summary (07/10/1967 - 07/16/1967)

Week Fourteen of the 1967 BBW Replay is in the books, and this was All-Star Week back in 1967. Played in Anaheim, this was the game where Tony Perez hit a homerun in the fifteenth inning to win the game. I had just turned ten years old that summer, so I have a vague remembrance about this … did I actually watch that homerun when it happened, or did I see it later on YouTube or some sports highlight show? Regardless, there were about twenty teams that needed a three-day respite, and this came at a fortunate time. In the AL, Boston is still on top, but they have slowed down somewhat. They started off the second half of the season playing second-place Baltimore and third-place Detroit, and despite both teams missing their star performer due to long-term injury ( Frank Robinson and Al Kaline ), other teammates have taken turns stepping up and keeping these two right on the tail of the first place Red Sox.   Note: Robinson (.358) and Kaline (.353) were leading the AL in hitting ...

Replay Redux

I recently completed a replay arc consisting of the following seven seasons: 1901, 1911, 1920, 1930, 1941, 1949, and 1957. This arc allowed me to play a group of seasons with a kinda-sorta ten-year gap between each season. This, in turn, allowed me to traverse the first half of the 20th century and to experience the evolution of baseball over this time period. These seasons all pre-date the expansion era but do include both pre- and post-integration seasons.   Background: Each of these seasons was replayed using APBA Baseball for Windows (BBW). Each replay was preceded by 3-4 months of prep work, with 6-7 months required to complete the gameplay. Micro-Managers were not used as all games were played manually. I used the APBA Transactions Manager ( ATMgr ) to automatically load my lineups before each game, which helped to streamline my gameplay. The time allotted to complete the replay is a comfortable pace for me that allowed me to keep playing but also allowed me to take a day off...

Week 5 Summary (05/08/1967 - 05/014/1967)

Week Five of the 1967 BBW Replay is in the books, meaning that in a season that is twenty-five weeks in length, we have reached the 20% point of the season. Given that we have now reached enough of a critical mass on batting and pitching stats to make a leaderboard somewhat viable, included below is a leaders snapshot. All the teams have now played ~25 games, and a few have passed 30 games, so by the end of this coming week, all teams will be at or around the ~30 games played mark.   In the AL, Boston remains in first place, but after getting swept in a doubleheader by second-place Detroit they now find their lead over the Tigers cut to 0.5 games, while the White Sox are now only one game out of first. Behind these three sits Cleveland and Baltimore as they both struggle with .500 and the difference in sixth and tenth place is one full game.
