Week 13 Summary (07/03/1967 - 07/09/1967)

Week Thirteen of the 1967 BBW Replay is in the books, and it was another exciting week. Plenty of close games with plenty of teams still all clumped up in the standings, so everyone knows that any sort of unfortunate losing streak can quickly bump you back down in the standings, no matter how short. Of course, a winning streak will move you up the standings, but holding on to those gains is proving to be very hard.

The other thing affecting teams is that now that we have reached the halfway point of the season, many teams are affected by injuries. Not necessarily the "put the player on the DL" kind of injuries, but the accumulated number of bumps and bruises over the course of a hard-fought season that require a few days off here and there. I am using as-played lineups, so when regulars suddenly disappear from the starting lineup, even for a day or three. Lineups are occasionally shuffled, and relievers may be called upon to make a spot start to allow a regular start to miss a start.

As we have reached the season's midpoint, the next three days will be the All-Star break. Obviously, the best players will play in the annual summer classic on Tuesday, but most players are just looking forward to three days off to let those tired arms rest or to let those scrapes and bruises heal.

Even with the scrambling of teams hoping to reach the All-Star break in one piece, the big news of this past week was a no-hitter by Atlanta's Ken Johnson over the Mets on Sunday, the fourth no-hitter of the 1967 replay. I have stated previously that I don’t know why I have so many no-hitters, but they are always unexpected and always a welcome surprise.

Two games will be played this upcoming Wednesday, but we will resume a full slate of games on Thursday and moving forward. I expect there will be a lot of shuffling in the standings yet to come - who is going to get hot, who is not. Will there be a rookie phenom that will make a difference? There are several major injuries in the queue yet to happen yet (hint, hint), so all we can do is go play, and let's see what happens.
