Week 10 Summary (06/12/1967 - 06/18/1967)

Week Ten of the 1967 BBW Replay is in the books, and what a week it was. There are a few teams with 58 or 59 games played, but most of the league has passed the 60-games-played mark. This means after a few more weeks we will be very near to the halfway point of the season, so it is coming quick.

The highlight of this past week was not one no-hitter, but two no-hitters, the second and third of the replay. Mickey Lolich started the week off on Monday with the first of the two no-hitters, this one over the Twins. Willie Horton smacked a three-run homerun in the sixth and Lolich shut down the hometown Twins, allowing three walks but no hits.

Following Lolich's no-hitter on Monday, Philadelphia starter Rick Wise no-hit the Braves on Tuesday. The twist in this game was that even though Wise had thrown nine innings of no-hit ball,  the game was still undecided because Phil Niekro had thrown eight innings of one-hit ball. In the bottom of the ninth, after one out John Briggs drew a walk, and then Dick Allen stroked a two-run homerun to secure the win and to secure the no-hitter victory for Wise.

Exciting stuff! The Red Sox are still holding onto the lead in the American League as Carl Yastrzemski has been on a tear, picking the Red Sox up and carrying them on his broad back. Atlanta has held on to its lead in the National League by dint of their strong pitching in conjunction with more than sufficient power and hitting. Both teams have maintained their leads, but neither is running away with anything, and there are plenty of teams nipping at their heels and looking to move up. Let's go play some games and let's see what is going to happen.
