Week 5 Summary (05/08/1967 - 05/014/1967)

Week Five of the 1967 BBW Replay is in the books, meaning that in a season that is twenty-five weeks in length, we have reached the 20% point of the season. Given that we have now reached enough of a critical mass on batting and pitching stats to make a leaderboard somewhat viable, included below is a leaders snapshot. All the teams have now played ~25 games, and a few have passed 30 games, so by the end of this coming week, all teams will be at or around the ~30 games played mark.

In the AL, Boston remains in first place, but after getting swept in a doubleheader by second-place Detroit they now find their lead over the Tigers cut to 0.5 games, while the White Sox are now only one game out of first. Behind these three sits Cleveland and Baltimore as they both struggle with .500 and the difference in sixth and tenth place is one full game. Will Minnesota be able to dig itself out of its doldrums - they spent one day in last place this past week - and start to move up into the real pennant race at the top of the AL.

In the NL, Philadelphia is holding on to a slender 2.5-game lead over St. Louis and San Francisco. The Cardinals have been struggling to get onto a consistent winner pace while the Giants are having their own problems trying to get both Willie Mays and Willie McCovey healthy and into the lineup on a regular basis. Behind them, both Los Angeles and Atlanta have been on a bit of a heater recently, and both would like to stay involved in the pennant race as well.

I am still getting a lot of shutouts, a lot of extra-inning games, as well as plenty of games decided in the final few innings, so 1967 remains a fun and interesting season to replay. Boston and St. Louis both got off to hot starts but have cooled off now - can they make it to the end? Who wants to challenge them, with the possibility of grabbing the pennant for themselves? There is still plenty of baseball to be played, so let's roll some games!

  1. Go, Phillies! My grandmother's favorite team, the Angels, never seem to live up to actual in 1967 replays. And... Tom McCraw thinking he is Ted Williams??!? Whoa, Tom, whoaaaaaaaaa boy!
