Week 21 Summary (08/28/1967 - 09/03/1967)

Week Twenty-One of the 1967 BBW Replay is in the books, and another exciting week it was. We still have two pennant races, and there has been no quarter given by any team. The season has reached September, and there are four weeks remaining in this final month yet to be completed. The Chicago Cubs are the only team to have reached the 140-games-played mark, thanks in part to finishing this week with three consecutive doubleheaders at home versus the New York Mets. Tomorrow is Labor Day, and it will be another holiday doubleheader extravaganza with eight doubleheaders on the docket (Note: The Cubs and Mets do not have a twin-bill on Monday). In the AL, Boston still maintains a solid 5.5 games lead over Baltimore and 7.0 games over Detroit. None of the three teams is on a particularly hot streak as Baltimore and Detroit seem to be content to duke it out for second place while Boston is happy to be in first place and just wants to ride it out. Monday, August 28, 1967 Transactions:   Boston outfielder Jim Landis (Major League Finale 08/27/1967) received his release on 08/28/1967 Washington pitcher Dick Bosman made his Season Debut on 08/29/1967   Detroit 3 California (H) 2   A close one came down to the final inning when Al Kaline hit a two-out two-run homerun (19) to give the Tigers their first lead of the day. Mike Marshall (2-1, 1.95) picked up the win in relief, with Fred Lasher getting the save (3).   Cleveland 4 Kansas City (H) 2   There were nineteen hits in the game but neither team could get the big hit, and Cleveland did just enough to grab the win for Sam McDowel l (6-16, 3.56), who struck out nine batters in his six innings of work.
